Prospective actors - join us!

This is a free service; hopefully all of us who become involved will get some extra acting roles and auditions through it. There are no fees or signup charges . The South Devon Actors And Casting Collective is not a casting agency as such, rather simply a way for local actors to publicise in one place, to potential casting directors. No money is actually made by anyone for running this website and service.
Once we have five members listed, the details of the website will be sent to known casting directors who have connections with work in Devon.

We welcome all actors aged 18 - 118, singers, mime artists, stunt-people, musicians, and specialist performers.

Joining this site is not in any way a guarantee, or offer, of employment, obtaining auditions, or performance opportunities. You are simply joining a group of performers who seek to maximise thier chances of finding work through publicity and being connected to a convenient resource for prospective casting directors. Many of us have one or two other jobs to keep us alive.

To join us, read on:

Please note that you must be aged over 18 and live within the South Devon area.
Please submit one clear digital photograph of yourself, along with an application form fully filled out. Unless you have received a formal invitation to join us, you will also  need to submit two references from drama teachers / theatre or film directors, with whom you have recently worked (Within the last 18 months).

These should speak about your commitment and reliability, and include a contact email (these references will be followed up). This is to ensure that all performers featured, are reliable and hardworking individuals who are serious about their work.

On the website:
The following information will be displayed on the website:
Your photograph, your name or stage name (as you prefer), special skills (e.g riding, swimming, etc) and what types of work you are available for. (fully paid / expenses only / student / charity).
All other information will remain confidential.

What happens then…
If a casting director looks at the site, and is interested in auditioning you for a project, the casting director will then email the website with the details of the production, audition, payment, contract, etc. This will then be forwarded to the performer(s) concerned, and it will be the performers’ responsibility to make contact with the casting director and agree details of the audition, employment etc. It is expected that the performer will respond to the casting director within 7 days of receiving the message to express interest, or not.
No *castings* or *auditions* for sex work will be accepted or passed on.
The casting director, not The South Devon Casting and Actors Collective, will be your legal employer.

A QUICK NOTE ON SAFETY:
Please note that no performer should have to pay to audition (other than travel expenses to attend the audition), and should not attend an audition in a private home or hotel room – all auditions should be in a reputable place (community centre / registered business premises/ hired function room / film or TV studio / theatre/ college, or other public place). If you are in doubt about the safety of the audition, do not walk in the door, or at the very least take a friend. Make sure other people know where you are going ! The South Devon Casting and Actors Collective cannot take responsibility for the veracity of offered auditions. If however you do have a problem with an audition, please let the website know, so that the offender can be banned from making further contact with the site.

A QUICK NOTE ON CONTRACTS.
You should have a written contract between the casting director, and yourself, signed by both of you, with both sides retaining original copies. If a written contact is not available, you should reject the "opportunity". The contract should detail, clearly, your salary from the company, and how recordings and your image may be used by the company. These contracts are legally binding to both the company, and to you.

Do not sign anything without reading it first, and clarifying anything you do not understand. If in doubt, please contact a trained legal professional, like a solicitor.
